This scheduled meeting focused on a range of issues including those that emanated from the May 2011 Federal Budget together with the Tax Office's ongoing communications program. Discussions included the following:

  • Recent SMSF reforms -still early in respect of the details of the provisions.
  • Reuniting super.
  • High risk end of SG -contractors and hence employer obligations.
  • Super Reforms Update (Cooper, Henry & Stronger Super).
  • ATO wide project - engaging youth. High priority is being accorded this issue across all aspects of the Tax Office's activities. Recent youth forum and sponsorship of National Youth Week by Tax Office, current development of Digital Curriculum for schools to cover Tax and superannuation for Years 9, 10 and 11 reflect this focus.
  • Excess Contributions Tax and need for contributions management.

The meeting was also advised of the Tax Office's further focus on expanding and integrating the various suites of information provided on its website.
