participated in the following consultative meeting.
SCC E&C meeting
A Superannuation Australia representative participated in a scheduled
meeting of the Superannuation Consultative Committee Education &
Communication Sub-committee held on 31 May 2011.
This scheduled meeting focused on a range of issues including those that
emanated from the May 2011 Federal Budget together with the Tax Office's
ongoing communications program. Discussions included the following:
Recent SMSF reforms -still early in respect of the details of the
provisions.
Reuniting super.
High risk end of SG -contractors and hence employer obligations.
Super Reforms Update (Cooper, Henry & Stronger Super).
ATO wide project - engaging youth. High priority is being accorded this
issue across all aspects of the Tax Office's activities. Recent youth forum and
sponsorship of National Youth Week by Tax Office, current development of
Digital Curriculum for schools to cover Tax and superannuation for Years 9, 10
and 11 reflect this focus.
Excess Contributions Tax and need for contributions management.
The meeting was also advised of the Tax Office's further focus on
expanding and integrating the various suites of information provided on its
website.
