SuperSeeker: Finding lost superannuation using new online form

Wednesday 25 January, 2012

The Tax Office has introduced a new electronic form that will improve the process for consolidating lost superannuation accounts.

The new process will enable members to search for lost superannuation using SuperSeeker. This involves members filling in a simple form and consolidating their superannuation online. An identity verification process will be applied by the Tax Office using information supplied to the member.

The improvements regarding the consolidation of lost superannuation accounts follow announcements made by the government in September 2011 and subsequent draft legislation to allow the Tax Office to administer the electronic form.

Using SuperSeeker

SuperSeeker allows individuals to look for their lost and unclaimed superannuation and provides a list of possible matches.  The tool can also help individuals lodge a request with their fund online if they wish to transfer their lost superannuation to another superannuation account.

Information that is typically required in completing the search includes an individual's:

  • tax file number (TFN)
  • family and given names
  • date of birth.

The online and self-help phone services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The number for the self-help line is 13 28 65 followed by Fast Key Code 1 then 2.

For those who do not want to use SuperSeeker online or the self-help phone service, they can contact a Tax Office customer service representative and request that a search be done.

  • If in Australia, the contact number is 131020.
  • If overseas, the contact number is +61 262161111 during business hours on the east coast: between 8.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, Australian Eastern Standard Time or Eastern Daylight-saving Time.
