Tax Agent Services Regime - What you need to know: A practical guide
TASR Update
In order to ensure that members remain up-to-date with current developments we have produced Tax Agent Services Regime: An Update. Members download PDF here. Note: Those who have previously purchased the print version will receive a hard copy of the update.
Publication Overview All practitioners providing a ‘tax
service' or a ‘BAS service' will be subject to the new Tax Agent Services
regime from 1 March 2010. It will inevitably change the way in which agents
carry on their businesses.
Changes introduced by the new laws
include a Code of Conduct which will govern the activities of both tax agents
and BAS agents, and the introduction of ‘safe harbor provisions' which may
enable taxpayers to avoid certain administrative penalties which would
otherwise be payable under the tax laws.
In recognition of these historic
changes, and as an aid to tax practitioners, Taxpayers Australia has produced a
practical guide which outlines the new
regime and provides tax and BAS agents with answers to the key questions they
must address.
